George Paton, Director of Insolvency

I have over 25 years' experience of insolvency matters and specialise in advising individuals in financial difficulty.

I understand the problems of people who, through loss of employment, illness or marriage breakdown, find themselves 'drowning in a sea of debt'. I try to find solutions acceptable to everyone, particularly where the family home might be at risk.

I started working in a small insolvency firm in 1994, subsequently spent 5 years in the Corporate Recovery department of a Big 4 Accountancy Firm and now manage the Corporate Solutions team in our Glasgow office.  I have gained significant experience in trading businesses during insolvency, including a groups of nursing homes, an exporting electronics company and engineering businesses. I am at my happiest when delivering commercial results to complex problems.

My first job after leaving university was with Ernst & Young. I was with them for just under four years, where I trained in the audit and accounts departments before moving into Insolvency. After that I spent five years broadening my experience in such diverse areas as business planning, government body budgets and stock control for housing associations.

I also managed a year in New Zealand, 6 months of which was working on organic farms.

When I'm not at work, I like to spend time catching up with family and friends. I enjoy travelling and visiting beautiful places around the world, and particularly like cooking and reading.

I have been working in Insolvency for about 9 years. As the Senior Insolvency Administrator, I am part of a busy team in the heart of Glasgow.

I am responsible for my own case load, progressing each one from administration to closure. I have regular contact with debtors and creditors, handling challenging and difficult situations with care and empathy.

When I'm not working I like to spend time with my friends and family, and when I find the time, going to the gym. I am also an affiliate member of the Institute of Credit Management and a Committee Member for the West of Scotland Branch.

I have been involved in Personal Insolvency for around 6 years now.

I took on the role as debt advisor in MLM in January 2009 and spend my time dealing with potential clients over the phone and face to face, advising on the best possible solution for each case.

When I'm not advising clients, I like to get away from the hustle and bustle of business and into the countryside for a spot of fishing while socialising with friends.
